Custom Rubber Stamps & Affordable Packaging

When I was little, I collected rubber stamps.  Obsessively.  I’m talking shoe boxes full of stamps.  I had teddy bear stamps, book plate stamps, and more than one stamp of my name.  I had roller stamps that made it look like Tinkerbell walked right across the bottom of the paper.  I had self-inking stamps, and stamps that you could put together to create your own personal scene.  I had stamp pads in every color, and even an embossing pad that I would use, then stand in front of an iron, meticulously allowing the heat to raise every surface of my graphic of choice.

I loved stamps.

It was no surprise to my mom when I texted her a picture of the first rubber stamp I had purchased in years (of my logo, no less) with a coordinating stamp pad appropriately placed in the shot.  Of course, the size of the pad I needed didn’t come in the color I wanted.  So I purchased an empty pad, and specially pigmented ink. After all, antique pewter is much better than boring old black.  (I did also find that Michaels carries large stamp pads in silver, which is also a beautiful option).

The whole reason I ordered this stamp is to find a more affordable option than custom packaging.  And my thought worked like a charm.

I discovered that ordering a custom stamp, and buying some plain white gift bags at Michael’s, is a just-as-professional (not to mention beatiful) option to investing in customized bags printed with your logo.  The best part?  Image proof boxes, mini albums, CD cases, and packaged photos up to 5×7 nestle perfectly in a standard sized gift bag.  And the larger bags accommodate everything else.  Throw in some tissue paper with the complementary color of your choice, and you have yourself a beautifully packaged order with Anthropologie flair!  (It’s even more pretty if you were professionally trained at the art of tissue paper gift bag filling at Hallmark like I was at the age of 16.)

The stamp I ordered is just over 5″ wide, and I will likely order a smaller one that’s sized more appropriately for the smaller bags.  Below are some images of the stamp, shown on a white bag with silver ink, as well as a peek at my packaging station that I’m slowly but surely getting to the finished state that’s been housed in my brain all along.  And yes, for my facebook friends, the tissue paper hanging on the wall is the same tissue paper I confessed to ironing last week.  Hello my name is Jane Johnson and I’m a perfectionist.

And one last piece of good news to all future branding clients: I’m including your very own rubber stamp (and a stamp pad) with every full branding package beginning May 1st!  Happy Thursday!

Okay, Jane. Them there boxes on the shelves. They’re perfect. They are boxes, right? Where did you find those puppies? I recently took a seasonal part-time job at Paper Source (this is my first yr in biz and I didn’t want to be home staring into space during the holidays). Even though I’ve been shopping there for years, it put a whole new spin on DIY. Love the stamp and the whole nine yards. Brava.

Hi Sandra! Thanks for the note! Yes, they are white photo boxes – I purchased the wedding white sample set in the boutique collection at http://www.h-bphoto.com. The boxes are actually striped, which are beautiful, but I think I’d prefer just plain white. But you can go to their website and look – they have a wide variety of colors on there!

I just ordered my own branding stamp (3weeks ago) and recycled kraft bags with silver and black ink to do just the same thing! I’m just waiting for the bags to arrive. I am now looking for boxes. So awesome and a great idea!

Jane, I’d love a stamp for my business too. Can you send me in the right direction? Thanks! Beautiful!

tamsen:

just had this very thought the other day- it is classier (IMO) than stickers on the bag, and much more affordable! Any tips on where to have one made? Thanks! Love your work!

ely:

This is random, but where did you get the tissue? I’ve been looking for some that color and have been having trouble! Thanks for your help!

Christine:

I made stamps a few years ago for my business, and I *love* them! They were such a great way to make things that are custom branded! I buy paper Moleskine books and stamp them, I have stamped bags, boxes, CD/DVD cases, and so much more! I highly recommend them to anyone that is crafty & likes to stamp!

Yours are just beautiful! I love your packing station too!
