The Reynolds Family: Bend Children’s Photographer

Eight years ago, when the diamond was still fresh on my finger and I wasn’t yet a Johnson, Josh came home from spending the day with a good friend.

“How would you like to move to Bend?” he asked.

“Sure!” I said.  Who doesn’t love Bend?  ”For what?”

“To help start a church with Brandon,” he replied.

It really was a no-brainer and, from that moment, we began praying and planning.  We won’t talk about the fact that Josh nearly missed our first marriage counseling appointment because he was surfing with Brandon.  But I suppose Brandon made up for it when he offered to abandon his post as a a groomsman and marry us when our pastor came down with a gnarly case of poison oak two days before our wedding.  Four months later, we were tucked into our brand new, low-income, two-bedroom apartment in Bend and River Rock Fellowship was born.  Brandon and Karie lived just a handful of blocks away.  Livie and Mia were still very little, and Rayna was tiny – just weeks old. Josh and I affectionately refer to that time as “the good days”.

Back when life was simple.  He was a document runner for AmeriTitle.  I was a barista at Starbucks.  Our rent was $500 a month.  We had no responsibilities.  No mortgage.  And my creative angst was released in the form of avid scrapbooking, creating beautifully laid out newsletters to friends and family as updates on our progress in Central Oregon, and cross-stitching complicated Christmas stockings. (I had to let the creativity out somewhere!)

Now, just over seven years later, River Rock has merged with Antioch Church and is thriving.  Silas added a little bit of testosterone to the estrogen-heavy Reynolds family.  I’ve abandoned scrapbooking for other creative avenues (that I get paid for). Our mortgage is much more than $500 a month.  And I’m more in love with my husband now than when we were newly married.

Life is good.  And it’s shoots like these that cause me to marvel at how far we’ve come.  And all that God has done in this time.  And I’m most definitely the person that says “I remember when you were in diapers!”

Reynolds family, thank you for owning the camera and making my job so easy.  We love you guys!  Happy Thursday!
