Watching Them Grow: Bend Family Photographer

I mentioned a few days ago that I love watching children grow up in front of my lens.  The year to year transformations are astounding, and this family is no exception.

Confession: I’m a creature of habit.  I find one secret, private location and stick with it.  I don’t like photographing where people can walk by or we’re blocking a sidewalk or a street, or generally inconveniencing those around us.  I don’t like making it a show.

However, Megan wanted urban.  So I went outside my comfort zone and ultimately rediscovered how much I love photographing in urban settings, despite the fact that it was a few weeks before Halloween and we got interrupted by a zombie parade.

We shot at a brand new location, so I had to think on my toes.  And I’m in love with the nooks and crannies we found.  The windowsill I discovered is the exact same color and shade I painted my studio so I imagine new sample canvases are in order!

This is the fourth time I’ve photographed the Caston family.  The first time, Olivia was barely walking and hardly talking.  Sophia was just about Olivia’s current age. And Tiffany would wear whatever you put in front of her.  Now you carry on full conversations with Olivia. Tiffany is almost in middle school (and fashion is top priority).  And Sophia’s “professional” ballet career is blossoming.

This year marks the third year that Tiffany and Sophia have danced in the Central Oregon Ballet Company’s performance of The Nutcracker.  And this year marks the first year that Sophia plays the part of Clara.  She had just received the news a few days before our shoot, and her eyes were still glowing when I asked her about it.

Mom’s sense of style is incredible.  And she can make anything you put in front of her.  So I know anytime I photograph the family, I can expect funky patterns, lots of texture, and perfectly mis-matched yet congruent ensembles.  Naturally, she brought along the girls’ ballet outfits for some photos toward the end, and they were perfectly contrasted against the grungy brick wall we found.

Happy Thursday!

Erin:

Lovely Jane! What a fashionable and fun shoot. The sisters will really treasure these.
