I met Tarah and her husband for an early morning session at a desert little cove in Makena this week. They came to Maui for much-needed getaway. To recharge their batteries. To take a couple deep breaths. To love on each other. To celebrate what they have survived. To squeeze each other tight and check in and readjust their stance before heading back into reality again.
They celebrated six years of marriage in July, and the only other time they had photographs taken professionally of them together was on their wedding day. Year six of forever decided to throw a few curve balls their way. As is the story with so many couples these days (ourselves included), they encountered road blocks in their journey toward having a family. On top the infertility struggles, Tarah’s husband (a fireman) was involved in a nasty car accident with a texting teenager that has been a battle to recover from.
After such a difficult year, it was time for them to look forward to something. Like sandy beaches, palm trees, and tropical breezes. And they wanted photographs to remember the happiness in the midst of the otherwise difficult year.
Tarah, thanks so much for trusting me with your story. And the privilege of recording this moment in time while it’s just the two of you. I’m looking forward to the next session we do together someday when you return with your family!
