Tara and I first worked together two years ago when she commissioned me to develop the brand for her photography business. We worked together for months, communicating via phone and email, and successfully launched her new brand for Taraloo in August of 2013.
Just a few months ago, Tara contacted me through my photography website. She was coming to Maui with her family and wanted some portraits taken. We got on the phone right away, and I quickly discovered that Tara has been a photographer for years and had never had professional portraits taken of her family. She had done them herself as well as she could with a tripod and a camera timer. But that’s just never the same. It was the classic story of the shoemaker having no shoes. And I was so honored to be the one to photograph her family.
They arrived. And adventured. And surfed. And explored. And spent countless hours circling the Grand Wailea pools and slides.
We met at White Rock beach for their session, catching the last thirty minutes of the Hawaiian sun for the day. I did a quick edit, and then met them in between slide trips at their cabana at the top pool of the Grand Wailea. (Did you know you can reserve the cabanas a year in advance??) I must admit, it was one of my most fun ordering sessions to date.
It’s common these days that clients become friends. And this family is no different. Their joy was palpable. Their laughter contagious. And their genuine southern kindness reeled me in from the start. Tara, is was such a privilege to photograph your family. And it was so great to finally meet you in real life!
