Josh and I are fresh off of an incredible 16 days in Maui, and I have so many photos I want to share with you. We’ll start with part one of some Maui maternity portraits for a beautiful little family. Nate and Jenna are a husband and wife videographer and photographer respectively that live on Maui and they opened the red carpet for us. During our stay, they showed us their favorite beaches, took us to their favorite restaurants, and gave us the inside non-tourist scoop on the tropical paradise they call home.
We had plans to go to one of Jenna’s favorite locations to photograph in Maui’s Upcountry, complete with just enough time to stop at a little coffee shop on the way before it closed. So we piled in the car, made our way up, and discovered a dark and rainy version of Maui awaiting us. Plan number one was out the window. So we drank our coffee, and decided to head back down. If one of us saw something on the side of the road, holler. So we left. And were driving back down to Kihei when I caught a glimpse of something on the side of the road. A beautiful grove of trees with wonderfully tall grass that wasn’t behind a private property fence. We turned around and I stuck my head out to look and was thrilled with what I saw. We got out the blanket. Unpacked the camera. Loaded the film. And began photographing right there on the side of the road.
This is the result of our time together. The film version, at least. I’m still exploring this new world of film and, as a result, am still photographing both film and digital. But I must confess: I can’t see that happening for much longer. Still to come: the digital version of this location, some beautiful beach maternity portraits from sunset this same evening, and a round of in-the-ocean, early morning maternity photos from another day together.
